Alongside the development of the Carkeek 40, we have been working on a larger 45ft HPR racer: the Carkeek 45. She has been created with similar objectives to the 40: a cutting edge inshore/offshore racing yacht with grand prix performance, construction, and technology. For those clients interested in a dual purpose HPR/IRC racing yacht, we have developed an IRC mode for the Carkeek 45. This allows owners to be competitive under both rules.

The Carkeek 45 incorporates the latest grand prix thinking into her hullform design. Particular attention has been paid to developing a hullform which planes easily and sustains high speeds even in light airs, but with enough stability to support her large power to weight ratio in heavier conditions. This in combination with a high sail area to displacement ratio, high ballast to displacement ratio, and generous draft allows her to excel upwind in light and heavy airs. At 5,250kg the Carkeek 45 HPR SA/DISP ratios are higher than the latest generation of TP 52s, and significantly lighter than her IRC equivalent.

Key grand prix features include: all-carbon construction, twin running backstays with deflectors, triple spreader carbon rig, large optimized fixed bowsprit, and a high aspect ratio sailplan with square top mainsail. To accomodate competition in both inshore and offshore international sailing events, the Carkeek 45 is designed to fit onto a rotating cradle for shipping and onroad transport, and to fit over a 40ft flat rack/platform container. Further practical considerations include a quick release lifting cassette keel option, and two part rig.

The Carkeek 45 has been designed in two editions, a ‘GP’ edition in full unidirectional carbon pre-preg/epoxy/Nomex construction throughout, and a ‘Race’ version in full infused carbon/epoxy/foam. Both versions come with high modulus mast and boom from Southern Spars as standard. The HPR rating procedure accounts for differences in construction type, construction materials, VCG, and many other factors, making the ‘Race’ version as competitive on corrected time as the ‘GP’.

Both versions of the Carkeek 45 are built at Premier Composite Technologies in Dubai, but are available exclusively through Carkeek Yacht Sales. Rig and standing rigging supplied exclusively through Southern Spars, and deck gear from Harken and Spinlock.
