C47
The C47 is a powerful grand prix racer optimized to the HPR-IRC racing rules. Created with similar performance charachterstics of the C40 MKi and Mkii.
The Carkeek 47 is a thoroughbred HP-IRC racing yacht, created with similar objectives to the C40: HPR driven performance both inshore and offshore utilising grand prix construction and technology.
Despite this on the water performance, we have carefully moded the boat to achieve a very favourable IRC and HPR rating, resulting in a very competitive package under both rules. In addition, we have included the ability to bias the optimisation towards either IRC or HPR and ORCi further if you are focusing on one rule in particular.
Building on the lessons learnt through the successful Carkeek 40 MKI racers, the Carkeek 47 incorporates further refinements into her hull form and appendage design. Particular attention has been paid to developing a hull form which planes easily and sustains high speeds even in light airs, but with enough stability to support her large power to weight ratio in heavier conditions. This in combination with a high sail area to displacement ratio, high ballast to displacement ratio, and generous draft allows her to excel upwind in light and heavy airs.
In her standard weight of 6,000kg the Carkeek 47 SA/DISP and SA/WS ratios are significantly higher than her traditional IRC equivalent.
Key grand prix features include: all-carbon pre preg nomex construction, twin running backstays with deflectors, triple spreader carbon rig, large optimized fixed bowsprit, and a high aspect ratio sail plan with square top mainsail.
To accommodate competition in both inshore and offshore international sailing events, the Carkeek 47 is designed to fit onto a rotating cradle for shipping and on road transport, and to fit over a 40ft flat rack/platform container. Further practical considerations include an optional quick release lifting cassette keel option, and two part rig.
The yacht’s naval architecture and appendage sizing/configuration was carefully evaluated using our in-house software and engineering expertise. The high performance hull form and appendage shapes were optimized following extensive CFD, VPP and race model analyses to ensure high performance is delivered on the water.
Externally the layouts are optimized for stiffness, low VCG, low drag, and enhanced ergonomics for quick, efficient and safe manoeuvres. The large racing deck layout provides an ergonomic platform to work from, and harnesses the
latest grand prix detailing. The twin pedestal system is located aft to improve weight distribution.
Both versions of the Carkeek 47 are built at Premier Composite Technologies in Dubai, but are available exclusively through Carkeek Yacht Sales. Rig and standing rigging supplier through Southern Spars, and deck gear from Harken and Spinlock. Owners do have the choice to customise their design with CDP on request.
